A Hippie Exploitation Film

"Ghetto Freaks," also known as "Sign of Aquarius" and "Love Commune," is a 1970 American independent hippie exploitation film directed by Robert J. Emery. The film captures the counterculture movement of the late 1960s and early 1970s, focusing on the lives of a group of hippies living in a communal apartment in Cleveland, Ohio.

The film is largely plotless, following the daily activities of the hippies as they encounter hostile police, get arrested, and spend a night in jail. They earn money by panhandling and selling copies of an underground newspaper. The hippies stage a protest march against the Vietnam War and attend a rock concert, frequently using marijuana and LSD. The narrative centers around Sonny, the group's leader, and his relationship with Donna, a naive young girl who joins the commune.

"Ghetto Freaks" is notable for its raw depiction of the hippie lifestyle and its exploration of themes such as rebellion, drug use, and communal living. The film's psychedelic visuals and portrayal of countercultural activities provide a snapshot of the era's social and political climate.
